FAQs for Job Seekers
Is Open Hiring legal in the UK?
Yes, it is.
And for extra peace of mind we have an employment and human resources specialist on hand to answer your questions. Read Charlotte John’s Open Hiring blog here or join a webinar where she is with us.
Can an employer offer a zero-hours contract or flexible contract via Open Hiring?
Yes, that is possible if it is customary within the company. A zero-hours contract has the advantage that if you have not worked for a long time you can build up hours. A fixed-hour contract is (in the long term) definitely preferred.
Can the employer offer temporary employment contracts?
Yes, this can be done as long as they are still using the principles and promises of Open Hiring. Good communications between the company and temporary employment agency are essential in this case.
What kind of contract will I get?
You get the same contract as anyone else performing the same job within the same company. There should be potential for a permanent contract in the long run.
Can I bring a CV?
This would be missing the point! Your CV is not required, your past is not of interest; it’s what you plan to do now that counts. With Open Hiring your employers are not allowed to ask for your CV.
What if I have no interest in starting the job after visiting the company?
Then you don’t have to start. It is up to you to decide whether you are suitable for the job. If at any point during the process; reading up about it, a site visit, conversation with the employer, you think it’s not for you, you can turn down the position, just make sure you tell the employer!
Can anyone register for the vacancy?
Yes! Anyone who wants to, and can work can register, regardless of their past, faith, origin, gender, diploma or experience. The only conditions are that you are eligible to work and 18 years of age or older.
